Whether you have questions about your orthodontic care or that of your child, we are pleased to offer the following general guidelines to help you navigate the world of orthodontics. If you have further concerns, please feel free to contact MP Orthodontics and schedule an appointment with Dr. Mark Padilla, our orthodontist in Plano and Anna, Texas.
What is the right age for braces?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have an initial check-up with an orthodontist at the age of seven. An orthodontist looks at different things than a regular dentist. With additional training and experience, an orthodontist is experienced in evaluating growth and development. Dr. Mark Padilla will make sure your child is getting off to the right start!
Every person is unique. Your child might benefit from early orthodontic treatment, or your child might need braces during the teenage years. In a nutshell, there is not a “right time to get braces.” If you are an adult, remember that the sooner you get braces put on, the sooner you will have them taken off!
We treat patients of all ages at MP Orthodontics! No matter your age, we are happy to provide you with a free consultation, so you can find out what your options are and what we recommend.
While it might seem as though teenagers are the most common group to wear braces, the fact is that many of our patients are adults! Early diagnosis of orthodontic issues can help alleviate the need for extensive treatment later in life; however, many adults benefit from orthodontics just as much as young children do.
We diagnose and treat young children who need early orthodontic intervention. While adolescents comprise much of our patient base, adults are welcomed and encouraged to schedule an appointment for a free consultation. It is never too late to achieve straight teeth and a beautiful smile!
Will braces hurt?
Most people do not report pain when braces are placed on their teeth; however, for the first few days of wearing braces, you might experience soreness. Most patients treat discomfort by taking over-the-counter pain relievers.
Can I choose the type of braces that I get?
In general, most orthodontic patients have several choices on the type of braces they can get; however, certain types of braces may be more effective at treating specific orthodontic problems. It is best to see us for an evaluation and to discuss your options.
Will I have to wear a retainer after my braces are taken off?
The purpose of a retainer is to help your teeth stay in place after your braces are removed. It is important to wear your retainer as instructed so that your teeth do not revert to their original position.
Can adults wear braces?
Absolutely! We treat adults as well as children. In fact, some adults have lived with crooked teeth for many years, and they are surprised at how easy it is to achieve straight teeth!
How do I choose an orthodontist?
It is important to use an orthodontist who has an excellent reputation and who will look out for your best interest. Make sure to schedule a free consultation with MP Orthodontics. Treatment can take months or years, so it is important to choose someone you like and who will do an excellent job. Dr. Mark Padilla is a board-certified orthodontist with the American Board of Orthodontics, which means he has extra training and expertise, and he has earned the highest level of professional achievement.
Should I have my teeth cleaned at my regular dentist while I’m wearing braces?
Yes! Your dentist or dental hygienist should be able to clean your teeth while you are wearing braces. It is important to keep your teeth clean and healthy while undergoing orthodontic treatment.
How often should I brush my teeth when I’m in braces?
Food can easily get caught in braces, so it is important to brush your teeth at least twice a day. Some people carry a toothbrush with them at all times – just to make sure their teeth appear clean and remain free of trapped food particles.
How often will I see my orthodontist?
The frequency of visits to your orthodontist depends on the type of braces you are wearing and your stage of treatment.
How much do braces cost?
Every patient requires unique treatment; therefore, the cost of braces can vary greatly from one patient to another. The cost of your braces will be determined before your treatment begins. For your convenience, we offer several payment options, including third-party financing and interest-free payment plans. We also accept most major dental insurance that includes orthodontic coverage. Dr. Mark Padilla does not want finances to get in the way of you achieving your perfect smile!
